Pantano hopes to keep FMS seat

Giorgio Pantano is hoping that a good result in this weekend's Spanish GP2 races could lead to him racing for the rest of the season with FMS International

The Italian has been called up to the team to replace countryman Luca Filippi for this weekend at the eleventh hour, and is hoping that it will lead to more races this year.

It will be Pantano's first race since the GP2 season finale in Bahrain last September.

"I don't exactly know how long this will be for," Pantano told autosport.com. "Maybe if I do well I will stay on for more than one race.

"I'm a racing driver so of course I'm here to win, but I'll have to learn quickly because this is the first time I have driven the car with the slick tyres. Barcelona is one of my favourite tracks and I think we can get a good result."

Filippi claims he does know why he has been dropped for this race, but is hopeful of a racing return this season.

"I don't know what the situation is really and whether I will stay with Fisichella Motorsport," Filippi told autosport.com. "But if not I hope to find another drive in GP2 or maybe the World Series by Renault."
