Lapierre on top in free practice

Nicolas Lapierre led Kazuki Nakajima in a DAMS one-two in free practice for the Valencia GP2 Series finale on Saturday morning

Championship leader Timo Glock set the early pace for iSport, but he fell back as drivers improved in the second half of the session.

The German ended up sixth fastest, four places ahead of title rival Lucas di Grassi (ART), whom he leads by two points in the standings.

Lapierre lapped just 0.086 seconds quicker than Nakajima, with Minardi/Piquet's Xandi Negrao almost two tenths behind in third. His teammate Roldan Rodriguez was fourth, keeping the team symmetry going, ahead of Giorgio Pantano (Campos).

Glock was sixth despite running wide and briefly off-track at Turn 1. Luca Filippi was seventh for Super Nova, ahead of Andi Zuber (iSport), Mike Conway (Super Nova) and di Grassi.

The session was punctuated by a red flag when Markus Niemela (BCN) spun off into the gravel. Other spinners included both DPR cars and Marcos Martinez (Racing Engineering).

Bruno Senna (Arden) repeated Glock's wide move but, like the iSport driver, escaped the gravel.
