Nakajima takes pole at Valencia

Kazuki Nakajima left his best qualifying performance of the 2007 season until last to just beat points leader Timo Glock to pole position at Valencia

The DAMS driver - a Toyota F1 protege - set his pole lap on his first set of tyres, a 1:19.312, seconds after Glock (iSport) had posted 1:19.389, a difference of just 0.077secs.

Glock's title rival Lucas di Grassi (ART) left it much later to set his best time, but his 1:19.669 was only good enough for seventh.

He was over three-tenths off the pole mark, but just a couple of hundredths faster and he would have been P4.

Luca Filippi will start third for Super Nova, but he incurred the wrath of Glock for getting in his way as he was warming his tyres. Filippi also escaped a huge moment through the ultra-quick right-left chicane to set 1:19.427.

Practice pacesetter Nicolas Lapierre was fourth fastest, ahead of Minardi/Piquet twins Xandi Negrao and Roldan Rodriguez.

Behind di Grassi, Vitaly Petrov was eighth fastest, ahead of Kohei Hirate (Trident), Giorgio Pantano (Campos), Adam Carroll (FMS) and Mike Conway (Super Nova).
