iSport surprised by testing pace

iSport team boss Paul Jackson admitted that he was surprised by the team's strong performance in testing at Paul Ricard on Thursday

Andreas Zuber and Timo Glock were second and fourth fastest respectively, but Jackson wasn't expecting the team to perform well based on what they were trying on the second day of testing.

The test took place on a different track configuration to the one used on Wednesday, and the majority of teams used the simple layout for aerodynamic testing.

Jackson said: "With a very busy programme, the team never concentrated on optimising a set-up for this track, so it was quite a surprise that we ended up second and fourth."

Reigning champions ART set the pace with Lucas di Grassi, while his team mate Michael Ammermuller split the iSport pair with the third fastest time.

However, Jackson was pleased with what his own team achieved in the test, and he was not surprised by the level of competition in the field.

"It's early days," he said, "and as expected, the times are very close and the competition is going to be tough.

"But we had some encouraging results, and both drivers were happy with the balance of their cars and the pace on long runs."
