Hanley leads first test with new car
Ben Hanley topped the first day of testing with the latest-spec GP2 car at Paul Ricard today
The British GP2 rookie was seventh-quickest in the morning session but improved his time by one and a half seconds to finish on top at the end of the day.
Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado had set the quickest time of the afternoon session, but his Piquet Sports car was excluded due to a minor technical infringement in the set-up of the rear wing.
GP2 returnees Andi Zuber, Mike Conway, and Bruno Senna were classified second, third, and fourth, all within a tenth of a second of each other.
The new car made its debut with no major concerns over reliability. Few drivers completed more than 60 laps during the six hours of running during the day, but most of the time was spent fine-tuning set-ups.
The test concludes with another day of running tomorrow.
