Grosjean sets the pace at Paul Ricard
Romain Grosjean topped the final day of this week's GP2 test at Paul Ricard today
The Frenchman set his best time of 1:12.031 in the morning session and it proved unbeatable as the rising temperature prevented the cars from improving their times in the afternoon.
Grosjean was relieved to be back at the front after struggling through much of yesterday's session with a vibration in the steering column.
"Yesterday was very frustrating because we changed everything but the problem stayed the same," he told autosport.com. "Today was much improved and I am a lot happier."
Pastor Maldonado bounced back from his exclusion yesterday to record the second quickest time for Piquet Sports, just a fraction ahead of Adrian Valles.
The morning session was delayed by 45 minutes due to fog, but conditions were perfect when running got underway and the cars were immediately under the existing lap record.
Spaniard Javier Villa was quickest in the afternoon's three-hour session, but the rising temperature during the day made all the times a couple of tenths slower than in the morning.
GP2 testing continues at Barcelona, Spain on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
