GP2 Reject Grid Protests
GP2 organisers have confirmed that, despite a protest, the grid will remain as set in yesterday's qualifying session and that the race will be launched from a standing start
A protest was made against two of the drivers' qualifying times, one of them being front row starter Gianmaria Bruni, for setting a fastest time when yellow flags were being shown on track.
The protest is believed to have come from ART team boss Nicolas Todt, who also requested a rolling start procedure on safety grounds. Both issues were discussed at a meeting between race officials and the teams this morning, and both were rebuffed.
A spokesman for the series advised that, despite comments yesterday regarding a possible problem with clutches for front row starters Bruni and Scott Speed, no evidence has been found to support the claim and the race will be launched from a standing start.
Coloni team principal Paolo Coloni was pleased with the decision, noting: "Gimmi slowed for the yellow flags - his previous best time for the sector was 25.5 and on that lap it was 25.8.
"It is clear that he slowed, so I was surprised that anyone had a problem with the lap, and I'm happy that it is sorted out now."
