GP2 drivers to race in Euroseries 3000

ART Grand Prix's Pastor Maldonado, Piquet GP's Roldan Rodriguez, iSport's Diego Nunes and DPR's Michael Herck have all made the trip to Portugal to contest the round and learn the circuit ahead of GP2's visit.

Euroseries 3000 is using modified versions of the old A1GP car this season, with revised aerodynamics, an uprated 550bhp Zytek engine and Michelin tyres.

Former GP2 racer Marco Bonanomi has qualified on pole position, with Maldonado joining him on the front row. Herck will line up third, with Nunes ninth and Rodriguez 10th.

Maldonado said: "We've made good progress this weekend, the car has got faster and faster. I will try to make a good start tomorrow, but I've never made a start in one of these cars before, so I don't know what to expect.

"I think the key is to drive an intelligent race to begin with and then really push in in the final five laps."

The Euroseries 3000 field also includes GP2 Asia racers Rodolfo Gonzalez and Fabrizio Crestani, and A1GP racers Clivio Piccione and Fabio Onidi.
