Glock tops free practice in Spain

Timo Glock set the pace in the GP2 free practice at Barcelona ahead of  this afternoon's qualifying session

Glock, second in the championship, lapped his iSport-run car in 1:29.126, over two tenths clear of fellow ex-Jordan F1 racer Giorgio Pantano, who looked strong for Campos Racing.

Third quickest was Kazuki Nakajima of DAMS, but he has the spectre of a 10-place  grid penalty hanging over him after an 'avoidable accident' in Bahrain.

Pastor Maldonado was a surprise fourth fastest for Trident, with Karun Chandhok  making it five teams in the top five places in his Durango entry. Lucas di  Grassi was sixth quickest for reigning champs ART, after surviving a huge spin on the exit of Turn 8.

His teammate, GP2 new-boy Mikhail Aleshin, suffered a disastrous start to his  weekend, as chronic throttle system problems limited him to two very slow laps.

Another driver in need of mileage, BCN's Ho-Pin Tung, spun off on the exit of Turn 2 on  his out lap, as the rear of his car appeared to seize up.

Other shunters included Chandhok, who went off at the second hairpin, while the fast Campsa right-hander accounted for Bahrain race two winner Nicolas Lapierre and Jason Tahinci. All drivers and cars escaped unscathed.

Yellow flags blighted the session, so some of the pace-setters, including series leader Luca Filippi, might not have shown their true colours.
