Glock takes Magny-Cours pole

Championship leaders Timo Glock and iSport stayed on top of the GP2 pile in qualifying for the sixth round at Magny-Cours on Friday, Glock outshining teammate Andi Zuber to take pole position

Lucas di Grassi had set the early pace for ART Grand Prix, his first run of 1:22.337 staying at the top of the times for the first 20 minutes. But then it was iSport's turn to get into their stride.

First Zuber hit the front with a 1:22.120, which was almost matched by Barcelona winner Bruno Senna (Arden International) on 1:22.255. Zuber lowered his best mark to 1:21.997, but that was eclipsed by Glock, not once, but twice.

Glock's first flyer was 1:21.895, which would stand for pole, but not before he produced a 1:21.982 lap which was also better than anyone else managed.

Zuber and Senna stayed second and third, with di Grassi improving his time to 1:22.295 but not his grid position in fourth. Giorgio Pantano was fifth fastest for Campos Grand Prix, and will start ahead of Roldan Rodriguez, who shone for Minardi/Piquet Sports.

Monaco winner Pastor Maldonado will start seventh for Trident, ahead of Adrian Zaugg (Arden) and the DAMS duo of Kazuki Nakajima and Nicolas Lapierre.

Of the series returnees, Michael Ammermuller will start 12th for ART, Adam Carroll 14th for FMS and Ernesto Viso 19th for Racing Engineering.
