Glock scores second season win

GP2 Series leader Timo Glock became the first man to win two races in this year's championship in round ten at the Nurburgring on Saturday for iSport

The German lost his pole position advantage at the start when he was out-dragged off the grid by fellow front-row starter Lucas di Grassi (ART). Glock tracked di Grassi for the opening nine laps until the Brazilian pitted.

Glock then drove a stunning couple of laps which, coupled with a stellar pitstop by his team two laps later, meant he rejoined ahead of di Grassi.

Kazuki Nakajima (DAMS) made an early stop and ran some quick laps to elevate himself to third after the pitstops cycled through.

The only thorn in Glock's side was from the unlikely source of Jason Tahinci (FMS). Glock got stuck behind the Turkish driver, who had yet to make his pitstop, and had to endure a couple of slow laps, which allowed di Grassi and Nakajima to close right up.

Glock lunged past at Turn 1 on lap 14, and after that there were no further worries. He won by 2.2 seconds.

Di Grassi, meanwhile, had to hold off Nakajima in the closing laps, which he did by 0.4 seconds.

Giorgio Pantano finished fourth for Campos Grand Prix, ahead of Kohei Hirate (Trident), whose late-stopping strategy worked out nicely to give him a fifth placed finish from 14th on the grid.

Hirate passed teammate Pastor Maldonado with a good move in the Mercedes Arena. Maldonado finished sixth, ahead of Adrian Zaugg (Arden) and Javier Villa, who will start his Racing Engineering car from pole position tomorrow in the reverse grid race.

Silverstone winner Adam Carroll was punted into a spin by Bruno Senna, who received a drive-through penalty.

Series front-runner Luca Filippi was punted off at the first corner by ART's Sebastien Buemi and retired.
