Glock reveals major tyre worries
GP2 Series leader Timo Glock said he had "images of Kimi Raikkonen" at the Nurburgring in the closing stages of Saturday's feature race when he nursed his car home with a flat-spotted front-right tyre
Referring to Raikkonen's unsuccessful attempt to bring his similarly-afflicted McLaren Formula One car home in the 2005 European Grand Prix, which led to the Finn crashing out in the closing laps of the race, Glock said he was scared of a similar outcome.
"I just wanted to survive in the end," he admitted. "I was doing everything to try and cool my front tyres, because I could see the flat-spot on the front-right for the last 10 laps.
"I had the image of Raikkonen in my head, and what happened to him, because I also knew I just had to finish the race to win."
Glock, who became the first man to win two races in GP2 this season, extended his points lead over closest rival Lucas di Grassi, who finished second.
"I had a couple of tenths in hand over Lucas," said Glock. "I just wanted to keep cool until the finish. After two terrible weekends, at Magny-Cours and Silverstone, to come here to my home race and win from pole position is just perfect."
Di Grassi said: "We need to fine-tune our set-up if we're going to beat Timo and iSport. We are a lot closer than we were earlier in the season, and I'm pretty happy with the way that ART are developing the car."
