Glock predicts tough GP2 title fight

Former GP2 champion Timo Glock believes that this year's title fight will be hard-fought, with several drivers capable of winning the Formula 1 feeder category

The 2007 title-winner believes that the standard of the front-running drivers in the category as it enters its fifth season is high, and expects the well-established teams to be in the thick of the title fight.

"I think it is a very high standard," Glock told AUTOSPORT. "Nico Hulkenberg and Pastor Maldonado are very quick and Lucas di Grassi will make it a very hard fight.

"I haven't had the chance to look too closely at the testing times, but for me it's going to be the traditional teams - ART will be quick, and iSport will have a good package. And DAMS with Kamui Kobayashi, who won GP2 Asia, as well. It will be another very good season."

Glock also believes that Toyota F1 test driver Kobayashi will be a strong contender after sealing the Asia title, using the 2005-2007 generation GP2 machines, in Bahrain two weeks ago.

"Kamui is ready to fight for the title and win it if they have the right package," said Glock. "After winning GP2 Asia, he's ready for it and now he has to prove it.

"It's a different car to when I won the championship in 2007, but I'm open if he has any questions. But he knows what to do."

The GP2 season kicks off at Barcelona this weekend.
