Buurman completes Arden line-up
Yelmer Buurman will graduate to the GP2 Series this season after concluding a deal to race with Trust Team Arden
Joining fellow Formula Three Euro Series front-runner Sebastien Buemi in the British squad, Buurman has signed a two-year contract after impressing the team during testing at Dubai ahead of this weekend's GP2 Asia opener.
While the Dutchman will only race in the main series this year, managing director Christian Horner claims Buurman's pace at Dubai is indicative of his potential.
He said: "Following two very productive days testing in Dubai, we are pleased to announce Yelmer for the summer series. After careful consideration, he emerged as the obvious candidate.
"After following his progress with interest through the Formula Three Euro Series, I am certain that Yelmer can look forward to a strong season in GP2."
Buurman, who finished sixth in the Euro Series last year driving for Manor Motorsport - and also impressed on a handful of Renault World Series outings - is confident he can translate his speed into podiums during his maiden year.
He said: "The test in Dubai went quite well, although we could have ended higher in the rankings.
"I am confident that I can help the team forward and I will do everything to surprise our competitors. I will be very disappointed if I'm not a frequent podium visitor in 2008."
