Bruni works hard for German win

Gianmaria Bruni scored his second GP2 win of the year in an action-packed race at Hockenheim

The Trident Racing driver led from pole, but ceded the lead to Timo Glock after slick pit work from the German's iSport team. But Glock's hopes were scuppered by a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pitlane.

This promoted Lewis Hamilton to second and a series of fastest laps brought the championship leader right on to Bruni's tail. As they cut through lapped traffic, Hamilton sought a passing opportunity, but Bruni drove faultlessly under immense pressure.

Second for Hamilton consolidated his championship lead after nightmare races for his main rivals. Nelson Piquet Jr hassled Bruni all the way up until the pitstops but he too was penalised for pit lane speeding.

He fought back in style but on the final lap, as he pushed Glock for third, he touched the rear of the iSport car, which caused the Piquet Sports machine to slow and he failed to make the finish line. Alex Premat lost a lap early in the race, but racked up a series of fastest laps to claim one bonus point.

Ernesto Viso inherited fourth after a spirited drive. Giorgio Pantano claimed fifth, while Adam Carroll took sixth.

From dead last on the grid - and after being punted into a first corner spin - Jose Maria Lopez performed miracles to take seventh, while eighth and tomorrow's sprint race pole sitter was Clivio Piccione.
