Bruni earns pole at Hockenheim

Gianmaria Bruni took his second GP2 pole of the season in a thrilling qualifying session at Hockenheim

The ex-Formula One racer put his Trident Racing machine on the front row with a great effort midway through the 30-minute session. The Italian went 0.3 seconds quicker than the previous best - prior to that the top four had been covered by less than 0.1 seconds.

Timo Glock will start alongside Bruni in Saturday's feature race after continuing the excellent run of form that he has produced since moving to iSport.

Nelson Piquet Jr boosted his title hopes with third, while Ernesto Viso claimed fourth in the second iSport entry.

Lewis Hamilton struggled again and will start eighth, while ART team-mate Alex Premat was 10th.

It was a nightmare session for Campos Racing, with both cars involved in sizeable crashes. Adrian Valles had a big impact with the tyre wall on the entrance to the stadium, while Felix Porteiro was trapped in his car under a pile of tyres after his throttle appeared to stick on the run into the hairpin. Neither driver was hurt.

Series returnee Nicolas Lapierre out-qualified Arden team-mate Michael Ammermuller and starts 13th, one place behind Adam Carroll.

New DPR signing Vitaly Petrov showed well and will start 23rd for his GP2 debut.
