Moreau quits KTR and World Series
Formula Renault 3.5 racer Guillaume Moreau has quit the series after falling out of title contention with the KTR team
The 25-year-old Frenchman, who won a race with the team in the series last year, lies just 11th in the championship after a double retirement at Hungaroring last weekend and has decided to walk away from the World Series and focus on his endurance racing commitments for the rest of the year.
Moreau drives a Chevrolet Corvette for Luc Alphand Adventures in the Le Mans Series and is currently leading the GT1 class alongside Patrice Goueslard.
"I stated that my aim was to fight for the title," he said. "Halfway through the year I've got no chance, seeing how far back I am, and I'm just not interested in being an also-ran.
"The team is disappointed. I am too, but it's the best decision as I don't see any other solution. We've never really been competitive with the 2008 car."
Although Moreau wants to focus on winning the LMS GT1 title, he didn't rule out a single-seater return if he received a competitive offer.
"I'm going to concentrate on the end of the season in the Le Mans Series. We're well on the way to winning the GT1 title and we've got two races left to do the job. On the other hand, if a good opportunity comes up in FR3.5, GP2 or anywhere else, I'll take it. I think I'm still capable of fighting at the front."
