Binder makes it a Monza V8 3.5 double at Monza ahead of Nissany

The Austrian entered the pitlane from third on lap five, just as Damiano Fioravanti retired in the gravel at the exit of the second Lesmo turn and signalled a safety car.

Binder's well-timed stop meant that he inherited a commanding 17 second lead over second place once the field had made their pitstops.

While his advantage would be cut down by Roy Nissany, Binder still cruised to the finish seven seconds clear of the chasing driver.

Nissany's second place came after the Israeli driver took the lead off the line from a slow starting Pietro Fittipaldi, who had started on pole.

Fittipaldi dropped to fourth after the opening few corners as result, but quickly fought back to second by passing Konstantin Tereshchenko and Binder.

The Brazilian was two seconds behind Nissany when the safety car was deployed and he remained close following a pitstop, although Yu Kanamaru managed to rejoin just between the duo.

That proved to be the crucial factor in the race for the final podium place, with Kanamaru claiming third after holding off Fittipaldi.

Tereshchenko had to defend from Matevos Isaakyan for fifth but was then hit with a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage off track earlier in the race, dropping him down to seventh.

As a result Isaakyan was classified fifth ahead of Nelson Mason, but the SMP Racing driver almost missed the race after he pulled into the pits before the start - leading to an extra formation lap.

Giuseppe Cipriani finished eighth after a penalty for an "incorrect pitstop".

Fortec duo Alfonso Celis Jr and Diego Menchaca both retired, the former spinning out after trying to pass Mason on the outside of Ascari.

Menchaca suffered a car failure before the formation lap, while Egor Orudzhev also retired after pitting under the formation lap with a problem.
