Barba ends Valencia WSR test on top

Marco Barba set the fastest time of the weekend in the final Formula Renault 3.5 Series test at Valencia on Sunday afternoon

The Draco Racing driver produced a 1m21.978s lap as much of the field switched to new tyres for qualifying simulations late in the session.

"We'd been encountering brake problems from the beginning of this morning," said Barba. "We changed quite a few things and the car was very good this afternoon. I went on the attack and I got the fastest time.

"At Jerez, like here in Valencia, we worked hard on the set-ups. We will concentrate more on the car's behaviour in race conditions in [the next test at] Barcelona."

Barba's late run pushed previous pace-setter Marcos Martinez (Pons Racing) down to second, with P1 driver James Walker's morning time keeping him third in the combined classification.

Series returnee Adrian Valles had been quickest for Epsilon Euskadi for much of the afternoon before ending up fourth, ahead of USR's Miguel Molina and Barba's Draco team-mate Bertrand Baguette.

British Formula 3 graduate Oliver Turvey was the day's top rookie in eighth place for Carlin Motorsport.

World Series by Renault testing resumes at Barcelona on 30-31 March.
