Formula E poised for a manufacturer 'landslide' to follow Jaguar
Jaguar's arrival in Formula E will spark a "landslide" of manufacturer involvement, according to series CEO Alejandro Agag
The British marque has confirmed it will enter the all-electric championship in season three, its first works programme since exiting Formula 1 in 2004.
It joins Formula E's current powertrain builder roster of Renault (e.dams), Audi/VW (Abt Audi Sport), Citroen (through DS with Virgin), Mahindra, NEXTEV (which has taken over Team China Racing) and Venturi.
Agag told Autosport Jaguar could open the floodgates in terms of original equipment manufacturer involvement in the series.
"It's transforming for Formula E, it changes totally the appeal of Formula E and confirms it as a platform for OEMs that are not in motorsport already," he said.
"I think it's going to provoke almost a landslide of other OEMs.
"We're talking to many, they are waiting to see who is first - and now the first is coming."
Why has Jaguar picked Formula E
Formula E does not plan to increase its entry beyond 10 teams, which means any incoming manufacturer would need to partner or replace one of the existing entries.
The FIA revealed on Tuesday that Dragon Racing, which currently uses a Venturi powertrain, will develop its own technology for season three.
Andretti Autosport and Team Aguri are running in season-one Spark SRT_01E specification, although Andretti had intended to use its own technology before abandoning it in pre-season.
"There are not many spots left," said Agag. "They better hurry, because once these are gone that's it.
"I think we could make Formula E by season four with 10 OEMs. That would be amazing."
