Waters forced to pull out from series
British Formula Three racer Alex Waters, who has been raising money for cancer charity CLIC Sargent this year, has been forced to pull out of this year's championship on doctor's orders
Waters, who has battled cancer himself for the past three years, has been told to rest for six weeks after picking up a virus infection. It means he will not be able to return to action before the end of the British F3 season.
He said: "A very disappointing end to what has been my first season contesting the F3 championship. But looking back on the year as a whole, I couldn't really have asked for more given that a year ago I was fighting cancer.
"With the battle against cancer won, I am spending most of my time focused very hard on raising funding for the future. F1 is where I have my sights firmly set but along the way, I want to help other cancer-affected youngsters.
"For now, however, I have no choice but to obey doctor's orders and rest for a few weeks while I shake off a nasty virus. While I would prefer to do it from the cockpit, I will nonetheless be using this downtime to look through all my telemetry data while taking full advantage of Playstation's race tracks!"
Waters has raised more than £230,000 for CLIC Sargent this year, having donated half of all the sponsorship money he has raised to the charity.
