Viso and Rossiter share poles

Ernesto Viso earned his first pole position in British Formula 3 at Knockhill today (Saturday), after which Fortec's James Rossiter took top spot for the second of the two races in Scotland.

The Venezuelan (P1 Motorsport) stayed out of trouble in the first session around the tight and tiny venue, while both championship leaders had bad times. Danilo Dirani had a large shunt on the way out of the Glenvaragill chicane, where the Carlin driver joined Karun Chandhok (T-Sport) in the gravel trap, resigned to watch the session from the tyre wall.

Nelson Piquet Jr had no incident in the first session, but simply lacked pace and qualified thirteenth. After a poor weekend last time out at Croft, the Brazilian series co-leader was at a loss to explain his continued lack of form at this track, where he won last year. But Nelsinho was able to salvage something from the weekend by taking third in the second session, albeit only with a last-minute lap that hauled him out of the midfield.

Will Power (Alan Docking Racing) took second for both races, in spite of a couple of gearbox an engine issues plaguing the Australian in the first session, for which he felt pole was easily on the cards.

Rossiter's pole goes with that scored earlier in the season at Silverstone, where he won in wet conditions. He'll start the first race in third place, one behind Power- with whom he tangled at Croft's first corner.

Dirani did not look confident after his accident, and will line up tenth for the second race tomorrow. The crash left him in ninth for the first encounter, which makes his (and Piquet's) narrow points lead over Rossiter look rather vulnerable.
