Vettel leads ASM 1-2-3

Sebastian Vettel turned his first pole position in the 2006 F3 Euroseries into his first victory since the Hockenheim season-opening weekend at the Nurburgring on Saturday, leading home a podium clean sweep for the French ASM team

The German teenager held off a first corner challenge from ASM teammate Paul di Resta, who made a lightning start from the second row to breeze past second-placed qualifier Sebastien Buemi (Mucke Motorsport).

Di Resta tried to go around the outside of Vettel at the right-hand hairpin, but failed and had to tuck in behind him.

Vettel proved his qualifying pace was no fluke and pulled well clear of di Resta, who dropped back into the clutches of Buemi and Giedo van der Garde (ASM) in the middle stages of the race.

The latter duo then became embroiled in their own battle for the final step of the podium, allowing di Resta to escape.

Van der Garde grabbed third after Buemi appeared to make a mistake at the chicane, but it took him until two corners later, when Buemi locked up for Turn 1 and slid wide, before he was able to get ahead.

Di Resta was two seconds up the road by then, with 10 laps remaining, but van der Garde could make no impression on him.

Jonathan Summerton (Mucke) clung to fifth, despite pressure from Manor Motorsport's Kohei Hirate, until just half a dozen laps from home, when he coasted to a halt at the short circuit's hairpin.

Hirate inherited fifth from Michael Herck (Bas Leinders Junior Team), Richard Antinucci (HBR) and Kamui Kobayashi (ASM).

A second corner shunt eliminated Esteban Guerrieri (Manor), who was struck by Prema Powerteam newcomer Paolo Nocera.

Guerrieri has now lost his third place in the championship to team-mate Hirate, having suffered a dismal run of late.
