Tech 1 impressed with GP3 car

Tech 1 Racing team boss Simon Abadie was impressed with the performance of the GP3 car at the championship's inaugural test at Paul Ricard last week

Each of the 10 teams was running the car for the first time and Abadie was surprised by its pace.

"We had one little problem with the turbo pipe, but it's a very good car," he said. "I think it is crazy fast. Really, for the first test to do a 1m20s at Le Castellet when GP2 times are around 1m13s, it's not so bad.

"The tyres are not so bad. We tried medium and soft tyres, the softs are dead after three laps, but then they behave very consistently over the rest of a run.

"Overall, I think GP3 has good people and very nice organisation. There are several routes for a driver to take into F1 now, GP3 and GP2 or through F3 and World Series, but I don't think it really makes much difference. To finish first you will have to be a quick driver."

Tech 1 ran Dean Stoneman, Kazim Vasiliauskas and Doru Sechelariu at the Ricard test.
