Snet 1: Piquet's bonus
Nelson Angelo Piquet has reclaimed the lead of the British Formula 3 race by winning the postponed fourth round at Snetterton today (Saturday). He also claimed fastest lap to earn himself a four-point advantage over James Rossiter, who didn't finish the race
Danilo Dirani had pole from the qualifying session run at Silverstone in April, before that race was called off due to rain. But the Carlin driver is struggling for pace at Snetterton and didn't help his cause by losing three places at the start. Both Piquet (Piquet Sports) and Will Power (Alan Docking Racing) nipped through, and continued side-by-side right through the first right-hander.
It was Power who came off worst in this exchange, going wide onto the marbles and losing several places. That left Piquet to fend of Adam Carroll, Dirani and Lucas di Grassi.
Di Grassi later made a brave move to pass Brazilian rival Dirani for third at the end of the back straight, but that aside the order at the front was unchanged until the end, despite a safety car period for a host of lowly runners stranded at Sear.
Rossiter stalled at the startline, dropped almost to the back and eventually pulled in with an overheating motor.
