Silverstone test: Carbone fastest
Fortec Motorsport's Fabio Carbone topped the times yesterday (Tuesday), as the British Formula 3 Championship field tested on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in preparation for next weekend's races
Brazilian Carbone, who is tackling his first full season of racing in the UK, was 0.2sec faster than championship leader James Courtney around the 3.194-mile circuit. The Silverstone GP track is the only one in the country he has raced on before this year.
Heikki Kovalainen completed a good day for Fortec by going third quickest, ahead of the Brands Hatch race winner Robbie Kerr.
Once again, Scholarship Class pace-setter Adam Carroll mixed it with the Championship Class boys, going fifth fastest overall in his Sweeney Racing Dallara-Mugen.
Manor Motorsport's Mark Taylor completed the top six, ahead of Honda British Touring Car Championship driver Andy Priaulx, who returned to F3 to carry out development work on the new Ralt F302.
There were a number of new drivers who featured at Silverstone. Stefan Hodgetts drove for Team Park, replacing Stephen Colbert who has switched to Meritus, while Brazilian Reck Junior drove a second Essencial Motorsport-run car. Both are expected to race in May.
