Hockenheim: Diefenbacher wins

Frank Diefenbacher dominated the second round of the German Formula 3 Championship at Hockenheim today (Sunday), the German finishing 15secs ahead of ex-F3000 racer Jeffrey van Hooydonk

Pole sitter Timo Glock (KMS Dallara-Opel) bogged down at the start, allowing Diefenbacher (BSR Dallara-Opel), who started third, and van Hooydonk (Team Ghinzani Dallara-Mugen) passed him before the first corner. Opening round winner Gary Paffett (Team Rosberg Dallara-Opel) also got past Glock when the young German ran wide at Turn 1, but the Britain's joy at another potential podium finish turned to horror when he spun at Turn 2 a lap later.

"I just locked a brake, it was very slippery there, and I spun," said Paffett. "I had massive understeer after that. The team tell me I was lapping quite quickly, but it didn't feel like it." Paffett recovered to finish 16th.

Bernhard Auinger (BSR Dallara-Opel) finished third after a late mistake from Charles Zwolsman (Kolles Dallara-Mugen) at Turn 2 gifted him the position. Glock fell down the order to finish sixth, behind Markus Winkelhock in his Mercedes-powered Mucke Motorsport Dallara.
