Silverstone 1: Taylor's maiden win

The Manor Motorsport ace made a fantastic start from second on the grid to get the run on polesitter Fabio Carbone and take the lead into Copse corner on the opening lap. And there he stayed until the chequered flag, while Scholarship class sensation Adam Carroll turned his sixth on the grid into a second overall.

Taylor's move on Carbone to take the lead, however, was not entirely without incident. While Carbone had Taylor on the inside, he had Fortec Motorsport team-mate Heikki Kovalainen on the outside.

Contact occurred between the triumvirate leaving Carbone with front wing damage as he approached Maggots for the first time, causing the Brazilian to go straight on. He rejoined the circuit, but not before contracting a puncture which sent him into the pits and out of contention.

Meanwhile championship leader James Courtney, who had made his way up to fourth after getting round cross-country man Carbone, had to contend with Carlin Motorsport team-mate Michael Keohane into Stowe.

The Irishman managed to get a substantial tow and attempted to get around Robbie Kerr and Courtney in fourth and fifth. While he disposed of Kerr Courtney closed the door and Keohane hit him on the exit of Stowe causing a puncture in the Australian's right rear tyre. He came in for new rubber, went back out to take the fastest lap and then came back in again.

Kovalainen had avoided all drama to slot into second behind Taylor on the opening lap and looked comfortable behind the Briton. He looked to be mounting a challenge for the lead when the gearbox in his Dallara-Renault gave up on lap nine.

Keohane went on to take the final podium spot with Kerr in fourth. Richard Antinucci drove solidly for fifth to give the Manor squad two cars in the top five, while Promatecme's Bruce Jouanny, who got bogged down at the start from fourth on the grid, finished sixth.

In the Scholarship battle behind Carroll, T-Sport's Karun Chandhok was second, with Mohammed Fairuz a distant third for Fred Goddard Racing.
