Rookies share Silverstone poles

British Fomula 3 rookies showed up the older hands by taking pole for both races at Silverstone tomorrow (Sunday). Briton James Rossiter will start the first race from the front while Brazil's Danilo Dirani has pole for the second event

Rossiter followed up his fine recent form in testing by beating Dirani by nearly three tenths in the morning session. He led with more than ten minutes remaining, at which time most of his rivals abandoned the chase having got the best from their tyres already. Dirani was second and Nelson Angelo Piquet third.

The second qualifying followed a very similar pattern, with the track quiet in the final third of the session. There was a spate of trade in fastest lap times in the middle, before Dirani got the last really quick tour in. Rossiter struggled this time round and had to settle for fifth.

Donington winner Clivio Piccione will line up only 15th and 9th, whilst the other first round victor, Adam Carroll, starts ninth and sixth despite a spin into the gravel in the second session.

Both Rossiter and Dirani are making their race debuts at the Silverstone International circuit.
