Hock: Premat's race 1 pole

The ASM team continued its strong Hockenheim form as Alexandre Premat went one better than on Friday to claim pole position for this afternoon's opening Formula 3 Euroseries race

Premat established himself at the head of the pack early on and whittled down his time to become the only driver to break 1m34s. The fight for second was fraught, but Nico Rosberg eventually came out on top, denying race two pole man Jamie Green late on .

Mercedes and Opel carved out the top six places between them. Nicolas Lapierre was fourth fastest for Opel, Eric Salignon will start fifth in his Mercedes-powered car.

McLaren protégé Lewis Hamilton was in the thick of the top six battle until he was forced out of the session when he damaged his car. The young Brit clipped one of the ramps that have been put on the outside of Turn 1 to stop drivers gaining an advantage by taking a wide line. The incident broke his Dallara's left rear suspension and he will start back in 14th.
