Race 2: Salignon's success

Eric Salignon produced a faultless drive to take victory in the second Formula 3 Euroseries race at Estoril this weekend

The ASM driver took advantage of pole sitter Nicolas Lapierre's poor start to lead into the first corner, and from there he simply drove away from the field. His cause was helped by team-mate Jamie Green's tough defence of second place from Nico Rosberg, which allowed Salignon to establish a commanding advantage early.

Green was eventually given breathing space when Rosberg almost lost control of his car through the fast turn 1 midway through the race. He held the slide brilliantly, but dropped behind Lapierre to fourth, where he finished.

Lapierre eventually caught Green by the end of the race, but could not find a way by. Roberto Streit produced his best drive of the year, collecting fifth place when race one winner Alexandre Premat ran off the road late in the race.

Premat rejoined in eighth and fended off Lewis Hamilton over the closing stages to collect the final point. The result means that Green now leads the championship from Premat and Rosberg, but with Salignon and Lapierre signalling their potential threat, it looks like being a five-way fight for the crown.
