Race 2: Piquet again

It's been a perfect weekend for Nelson Angelo Piquet at Oulton Park. In the second race today (Sunday), the Piquet Sports driver took a win that was even more mighty than that in the earlier race.

Nelsinho pulled away at around a second a lap, and gave the impression that it could have been more if he had wanted. In a year as competitive as this one, Piquet's double was easily the season's most demoralising display of speed thus far.

Piquet started the race in second, behind Clivio Piccione (Carlin Motorsport). The two came close to touching off the line, but Piquet had Piccione's measure and assumed the lead at Old Hall. Lucas di Grassi (Hitech Racing) also went by the Monegasque, whose attempt at a fightback ended with a terminal off on the way to the hairpin halfway around the first lap.

That left di Grassi to drop steadily away from Piquet - there was never a hope. But di Grassi will take the second after a dreadful run of ill fortune in recent weeks. He had attention now and then from James Rossiter (Fortec Motorsport), but it was rarely much of a worry. Likewise, Rossiter was kept honest by Carlin's Alvaro Parente - but only rarely did it look as though there might be a move.

Adam Carroll (P1 Motorsport) did as best he could by netting eighth from twelfth on the grid, but couldn't prevent Piquet from pulling out to a 29-point lead in the championship. Rossiter is now a rather distant third in the points.

Nelson Angelo Piquet (Dallara-Mugen) 21m11.118s

Alvaro Parente (Dallara-Mugen) +13.714s
Danilo Dirani (Dallara-Mugen) +15.407s
Marko Asmer (Dallara-Renault) +16.071s
