Race 1: Piquet romps away
Nelson Angelo Piquet won the first of today's Formula 3 races at Oulton Park in style. From pole position he was never troubled after fighting off Fairuz fauzy's challenge into Old Hall corner. The win means Piquet takes an 11-point lead in the championship
His main rival Adam Carroll fought through to fourth place after starting ninth in a race under constant drizzle. The precipitation was never enough to affect matters, though, and things were mostly processional at the front. Fauzy (in his first race for P1 Motorsport) held second place to the end, fending off spurts of interest from Carlin Motorsport's Alvaro Parente.
Ryan Lewis (T-Sport), who had qualified third in a scholarship class car, lost a place at the start and then got picked off by Carroll, James Rossiter (Fortec Motorsport) and Danny Watts (Promatecme). Rossiter pressured Carroll at times, but the P1 Motorsport driver held on until the end while Watts kept a distant eye on them both.
Nelson Angelo Piquet (Dallara-Mugen) 21m26.263s
Fairuz Fauzy (Dallara-Opel) +6.281s
