Race 2: Diefenbacher dominates

A dominant performance from new German Formula 3 Championship leader Frank Diefenbacher left his rivals gasping in the 14th round of the series at Eurospeedway Lausitz on Sunday

In a drive reminiscent of his performance in the opening rounds at Hockenheim, Diefenbacher powered his Bert Schafer Racing Dallara-Opel away from pole and was never challenged thereafter. He won by almost 5secs, but had backed off in the latter stages.

Nicolas Kiesa made a poor start from the front row and couldn't hold back the Opel-powered opposition on the opening lap in his Toyota-engined GM Motorsport Dallara. He lost places to Toshihiro Kaneishi (Bert Schafer Racing Dallara-Opel), Stefan Mucke (Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Opel) and Bjorn Wirdheim (Prema PowerTeam Dallara-Opel) on the first tour, but held fifth position to the flag, just clear of yesterday's winner Markus Winkelhock (Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Opel).

A splendid drive from Britain's Gary Paffett (Team Rosberg Dallara-Opel) was the only other highlight of an interminably dull race. From 10th on the grid he initially dropped to 11th before battling his way through to eighth.

Diefenbacher now leads the series by six points from Kaneishi, who third placed Pierre Kaffer (Team Kolles Dallara-Mugen) could only finish 10th today, dropping over 20 points off the pace.
