Race 1: Hamilton wins
Lewis Hamilton claimed his first ever win in the Formula 3 Euroseries this weekend after keeping his held in a frantic street fight at the Norisring
After Jamie Green was docked 20 places after his qualifying incidents, Hamilton started from pole. However, he was beaten away from the line by Nicolas Lapierre, but although the Signature Plus driver raced at the front for the opening laps, he was on borrowed time and when he was rightly given a drive-through penalty for a jumped start he was taking out of the reckoning.
By this time, Hamilton had slipped behind the ASM car of Alexandre Premat, and the Frenchman looked to have the race in the bag. But with just 10 laps remaining the left front suspension of his car snapped and Hamilton was back in front, and with a healthy lead over Loic Duval in third.
In the closing stages the gap shrunk, but Hamilton was in control and was delighted to claim his and Manor Motorsport's first win in the series.
PREMA's Franck Perera passed Nico Rosberg late on to take the final podium position, while Rosberg ended a run of three non-finishes with fourth. After starting back in 21st, Jamie Green did a great salvage operation to take sixth place and further boost his title chances.
