Qual 1: Green on pole then rolls!

Jamie Green claimed his second pole of the weekend at Norisring, but his celebrations were tempered by a huge shunt, which brought the red flags out with just four minutes of qualifying remaining

Green's session came to a premature end when he tangled with fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton. Green appeared to cut across him on the back straight as he weaved to warm his tyres. The collision removed his left-rear wheel, and Green slammed into the barriers, which then flipped his Dallara into a roll.

Further complicating the matter, Adrian Sutil had an accident all of his own, just a hundred yards further down the track. Both cars were badly damaged, although the drivers were unhurt, but whether Green will be able to take part in today's race is a moot point.

Qualifying resumed once the wreckage was cleared, but with the tyres needing 10 laps to reach their ideal heat it was difficult for anyone to improve. The only change in the top 10 came courtesy - amazingly - of Hamilton, who did a storming job after his earlier scare to leapfrog Nicolas Lapierre and snatch the second front row spot next to Green. Saturday's race will be the first ever all-British front row for a Euroseries race.

Green's ASM team-mate Alex Premat starts fourth ahead of Nico Rosberg and PREMA star Franck Perera.
