Priaulx: No more F3 despite Macau seat
Brit Andy Priaulx has decided to turn his back on single-seaters despite bagging a drive for next month's Macau Grand Prix Formula 3 race with his former team Promatecme
Priaulx has struck a deal for the blue riband Macau race with his team from last year, but the 27-year-old has admitted that his future lies in touring cars and he is hoping to land a works deal in next year's British Touring Car Championship.
The Guernseyman finished sixth in this year's British Formula 3 Championship with Alan Docking Racing. But he also competed in two BTCC races with the Egg-backed Vauxhall team at Oulton Park in place of the suspended Phil Bennett and scored two pole positions.
"I want to be in the BTCC next year," said Priaulx. "I want to be a professional driver. I felt that I needed to do Formula 3 to learn a bit more and to go up against the best and beat them, which I did.
"I'm really chuffed about going to Macau. It's great because I showed well there last year and it's really good to be going back. It also helps that I already know the team and I'll be putting a lot of pressure on myself. I want to end my single-seater career on a high."
Before Prialux heads out to Macau next month, he is competing in the final round of the Spanish Formula Nissan series at Valencia this weekend and will replace Nicolas Filiberti in the GD Racing team. The title has yet to be decided and could go to either Tomas Scheckter or Franck Montagny.
"All these deals seem to be coming up just as I decide to finish with single-seaters," quipped Priaulx. "Maybe I should quit more often."
