Preview: Courtney seeks hat-trick
The high-speed sweepers of the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire play host to the fifth round of the British Formula 3 Championship this weekend
The track is an excellent one for F3: it's a good challenge for the drivers, and the twisty corners at the end of the lap - culminating in the first-gear hairpin - are relatively easy spots for banzai overtaking manoeuvres.
Carlin Motorsport's James Courtney took a useful championship lead after clean-sweeping the last double-header at Knockhill, and has the further advantage of having kept 'match fit' by finishing a highly respectable third in the intervening Pau Grand Prix.
Once again the Australian is the clear favourite for Croft, especially as his opposition is unpredictable and inconsistent.
Pre-Knockhill leader Robbie Kerr (Alan Docking Racing) had a below par weekend in Scotland, allowing Heikki Kovalainen, Ronnie Bremer and Michael Keohane to be the closest challengers to Courtney last time out. Bruce Jouanny got good points, but needs to regain some speed.
Scholarship Class hero Adam Carroll has only one chance to embarrass the A-class boys this weekend, as the classes have been split into separate outings for the first race. Fellow Ulsterman Stephen Colbert is also looking a very useful prospect.
