Parente wins in the wet
Carlin Motorsport is back in the British Formula 3 winners' circle after Portugal's Alvaro Parente won a wet second race at Castle Combe. A brilliant start from third on the grid was what won him this race, although a late safety car denied the crowd what might have been a grandstand finish.
Parente got by Adam Carroll (P1 Motorsport's pole man) and Danny Watts' Lola-Dome-Mugen to lead into Quarry. He managed to pull out a gap early on, keeping a steady head whilst the likes of Ernesto Viso (P1 Motorsport), Watts and fifth-placed Clivio Piccione (Carlin) came on strong after mid-distance.
But just as the front five began to telescope for the final eight laps, the safety car was out when Viso crashed at Tower corner. This took up most of the race distance and left the field with just three racing laps remaining. A massive shower occurred during the caution period too, which made everybody cautious and stopped any sparks flying after the restart.
Nelson Angelo Piquet spun off on his own at the final turn, but still leads the championship thanks to his healthy cushion after Snetterton. But both Carroll and James Rossiter are now a good deal closer to the Brazilian championship favourite.
Alvaro Parente (Dallara-Mugen) 27m55.095s
Adam Carroll (Dallara-Mugen) +0.976s

Clivio Piccione (Dallara-Mugen) +2.510s
