Nurburgring Euro F3: Ferrari's Raffaele Marciello takes another win
Raffaele Marciello made it two wins out of two at the Nurburgring with a dominant drive in the second Formula 3 European Championship encounter on Saturday evening
The Italian, who started from pole position, got the jump on the field at the start and was never seriously challenged as he took his Prema Powerteam Dallara-Mercedes to a ninth win of 2013.
His main title rival and fellow front-row starter Felix Rosenqvist stalled at the start, allowing Alexander Sims into second place off the line.
The T-Sport driver was overtaken at the first corner by Fortec driver Pipo Derani and was unable to get back past as the Brazilian took his best result of the year. Behind them were Carlin's Jordan King and Prema's Lucas Auer.
A mid-race safety car, triggered after Lucas Wolf ploughed into a spun Roy Nissany at Turn 1, closed up the pack and allowed Sven Muller to nip by Felix Serralles for sixth at the same corner as racing resumed.
Alex Lynn was also able to get by Serralles by the end, capping a good recovery drive from 13th on the grid.
Even more impressive was Rosenqvist, who finished the opening lap 22nd and gradually made his way through the field to finish ninth.
His standout moment came when he passed Tom Blomqvist and Daniil Kvyat in four corners to close onto the fringes of the points with a handful of laps to go.
Rosenqvist's result means he is now an increased 57.5 points behind Ferrari protege Marciello in the championship with 10 races left and 250 points available.
