Mustonen leads after Pembrey test
Atte Mustonen underlined his credentials as a contender for the British Formula Three title by setting the fastest time of the first pre-season test at Pembrey yesterday
The Finn, who is one of only two F3 race winners in this year's field, lowered Oliver Turvey's benchmark from Tuesday by three tenths of a second.
Turvey improved as well to end up one tenth shy of Mustonen's time, with Hitech Racing teammates Walter Grubmuller and Max Chilton third and fourth quickest.
Fourteen of the 23 drivers at the test are new to Formula Three this season and most completed close to 200 laps during the teams' first outings with the 2008-spec chassis.
F3 veteran Jonathan Kennard was out with Hitech again, although he is unlikely to contest the British championship again this season.
Ex-Formula Ford and FBMW team Nexa Racing joined the F3 ranks at Pembrey, running a National Class Dallara Mugen-Honda for German Craig Reiff. Team and driver will contest the full season together.
The second of four official pre-season tests will take place at Snetterton on Wednesday and Thursday next week.
