Hartley tops day one at Snetterton

New Zealander Brandon Hartley topped the times on the first day of this week's test at Snetterton today

The 18-year-old reigning Formula Renault Eurocup champion posted a best time of 1:01.298s, three quarters of a second quicker than the official lap record, and edged out second-placed Sergio Perez by just one hundredth of a second.

"I'm pleased with the progress we're making," said Hartley. "I'm developing a good relationship with my engineer and we're working well together to get a better understanding of the new car."

Hitech Racing teammates Max Chilton and Walter Grubmuller were third and fourth fastest respectively, followed by a quartet of Carlin cars including National Class front runner Andy Meyrick, who was just 0.343s slower than Hartley in a 2005-spec Dallara Mugen-Honda.

A total of 25 cars took part in the day's running with Ultimate Motorsport's Michael Devaney and T-Sport's Steven Guerrero having their first outings of the season after missing the Pembrey test last week.

The Snetterton test concludes with a second day of running tomorrow.
