Merhi hits the front at Valencia

Motopark newcomer Kimiya Sato was a surprising second fastest as the Japanese driver lapped the circuit just nine hundredths of a second slower than the category veteran in the best of the Volkswagen-powered cars.

Mucke driver Nigel Melker set the morning pace and improved his times slightly during the afternoon to wind up third quickest, while Carlos Munoz was surprisingly the quickest man from champion team Signature.

Last year's Euro Series runner-up Marco Wittmann continued his disappointing week by only going sixth quickest, while his team-mate Laurens Vanthoor, the day one pacesetter, was three places further back.
