Lausitz pole for di Resta

Paul di Resta took pole position for Sunday's fourth round of the F3 Euroseries at EuroSpeedway Lausitz on Friday afternoon

The ASM driver, winner of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award, fended off a two-pronged attack from Manor Motorsport in the shape of Esteban Guerrieri and opening race winner Kohei Hirate, while young American Jonathan Summerton was the surprise of the session, grabbing fourth in his Mucke Motorsport machine.

The morning's rain, coupled with fresh rubber from 90 minutes of DTM practice, meant the now dry track conditions were transformed from those of Thursday's test session.

This sent teams into overdrive, as they were forced to make radical set-up changes mid-session as drivers complained of massive oversteer.

Di Resta took it all in his stride, banging in two sub-1:15 laps that no one else could match. His best time, 1:14.929, was 0.127 seconds clear of Guerrieri's last-gasp attack. The Argentinian rued making a hash of the final sector, as he believed pole was within his reach.

Hirate slipped to third in the dying seconds but was a tenth clear of Summerton, round 2 winner Sebastian Vettel (ASM) and Mucke's second driver, Sebastien Buemi.

Giedo van der Garde (ASM) was just 0.018 seconds away from fifth-placed Vettel, but that was only good enough for seventh due to the closeness of the times.
