Guerrieri wins Lausitz opener
Argentina's Esteban Guerrieri won his maiden Formula Three Euroseries race at EuroSpeedway Lausitz on Saturday for Manor Motorsport in a Dallara-Mercedes
From second on the grid, Guerrieri leapt past pole sitter Paul di Resta (ASM) into the first corner and was never again headed.
Di Resta was lucky to be on the grid at all, having spun into the gravel trap at the Apcoa-Kehre on his way to the dummy grid. Fortunately, the marshals complied with his anxious request to be lifted out of the gravel, and took up his place for the start.
Di Resta finished second after the challenge from ASM teammate Sebastian Vettel wilted at half distance, when the German locked up and ran wide into the gravel. He escaped to finish third, such was his advantage over fourth placed Jonathan Summerton (Mucke Motorsport).
Another American, Richard Antinucci, finished a superb fifth from 12th on the grid, with the Signature duo of Romain Grosjean and Guillaume Moreau right behind. The final point went to Kazuki Nakajima (Manor).
Sebastian Buemi escaped unscathed from a bizarre accident that caused him to be trapped in his car for over five minutes, as it was wedged on its side against the wall of Lausitz's banked oval. Once tipped back onto its wheels, he drove it back to the pits! The safety car was required for four laps while the Swiss driver was rescued.
