Jelley takes Thruxton victory

Stephen Jelley (Double R Racing) finally broke his British Formula Three duck after an exciting race at Thruxton on Sunday

Pole man Sebastian Hohenthal (Fortec Motorsport) and Niall Breen (Carlin Motorsport) were the two drivers initially disputing the lead, but they clashed at Campbell a couple of laps into the race and ruled themselves out of contention.

This put Sam Bird (Carlin) into the lead, but it wasn't long before Jonathan Kennard (Double R) passed him. But once Atte Mustonen (Double R) moved into third it became a three-way fight for the lead.

Mustonen and Bird then fell over each other at Club, both slamming into the tyre barrier and leaving Kennard with a handy lead. But this incident brought out the safety car, and Jelley passed his teammate for the lead at the restart.

Jelley then managed the gap well to the end, with Kennard taking second and Maro Engel driving a fine race from 15th on the grid to claim third. This helps him slightly close the gap to championship leader Marko Asmer (Hitech Racing), who struggled to ninth place.

Sergio Perez (T-Sport) was the National Class winner, ahead of Hamad Al Fardan (Performance Racing).
