Hockenheim 1: Matsuura wins
Kousuke Matsuura claimed a maiden German F3 victory in the first of the two prestigious German Grand Prix-supporting races at Hockenheim. The Japanese finished a comfortable 3.628s clear of Gary Paffett, who now leads the championship by 31 points from Frank Diefenbacher, who finished eighth
Former International F3000 driver Jeffrey van Hooydonk took his second consecutive third-placed finish, while Mercedes-powered Markus Winkelhock enjoyed his best run of the season to finish fourth.
Bernhard Auinger and Joao Paulo de Oliveira rounded out the top six points scoring positions, while British series regular Fabio Carbone was forced to retire on the first lap along with former Nordic F3000 driver Ryan Briscoe.
The second race of the round takes place on Sunday, and if Diefenbacher is to keep Paffett in sight in the championship chase a win is a must.
