Felipe Guimaraes joins Double R for 2014 F3 European Championship
Reigning South American Formula 3 champion Felipe Guimaraes has joined Double R Racing to contest the F3 European Championship
The 22-year-old from Brasilia combined his South American campaign last year with a British F3 programme with Fortec Motorsport, in which he took two race wins.
Guimaraes, who raced earlier in his career in A1GP, GP3, Euro 3000 and Indy Lights, is the first driver confirmed for the European championship by the Dallara-Mercedes-equipped Double R squad.
He is supported by Brazilian legend Emerson Fittipaldi as well as former F1 driver Alex Ribeiro's Jesus Saves Racing initiative.
AUTOSPORT understands that he could be the Woking team's only representative in Europe when the season kicks off, although the team is hoping to attract other drivers.
Team principal Anthony Hieatt said: "Felipe is a fantastic young driver, and we were very impressed with what we saw of him in British F3 last year.
"He's certainly got the experience to be very competitive in Europe this year, so I'm hopeful of a strong season from him.
"We always wanted to maintain a European F3 programme alongside British F3 again this year, so we're delighted to have agreed the deal with Felipe."
Hieatt also confirmed that his team will add to its British F3 line-up, which currently consists of American Camren Kaminsky and Macau's Andy Chang.
"Whatever happens we'll be running three cars in Britain," he said.
