The 18-year-old from San Marino was a race-winner in the Formula Abarth European Series last year, and then tested for both the ART-run Lotus team and Trident over the winter.
"2013 is going to be the most important in my entire career," said Zonzini.
"I will be on track in a very demanding championship, and I will face some very talented drivers with previous GP3 experience.
"I'll need to familiarise myself fast with the category's environment, the car, the tracks and I hope to have a great season with Trident in terms of my professional growth and results."
Established GP2 squad Trident made its GP3 debut last year, achieving two podium finishes with lead driver Giovanni Venturini.
But with his team-mates Antonio Spavone and Vicky Piria not breaking into the points, Trident finished at the foot of the teams' standings.
