Davies tired but happy in Korea

Briton Matt Davies said he was 'tired, but generally happy' after ending the opening day of practice for the Korea Grand Prix just two seconds off the pace-setters

The RC Motorsport driver, who was called up to race in Korea at the last minute after regular driver Gabriele Varano broke his hand, was hopeful of qualifying in the top 15 on Saturday.

'It's been an amazing few days and I am absolutely shattered,' he said.

'I got the call to come here at 9am on Wednesday and I had to catch a 4pm flight. In that time I had to get my race seat from Fortec, buy some new gloves and find my helmet.'

Davies arrived in Korea late on Thursday night and because of jet-lag he only managed to sleep for two hours -- leaving him not best prepared for opening practice today.

'I can't be too disappointed with my performance today,' he said.

'I haven't driven a race car for six weeks and I haven't driven this car and this engine at all. So it's been a real learning experience for me, and I am just thankful that I haven't crashed today.

'I didn't want to be any more than 2.5 seconds off the pace and that is where I am now. I'm aiming for the top 15 in qualifying and then we will see what happens in the race.'

Davies has been linked with a drive at the Italian outfit when they switch to the British Formula Three Championship next year.
